I’ve been going to Bistro Pierre since I was a young child which is going on about 18 years now.
I’ve recommended this restaurant to so many people for its outstanding food for the price you pay. I will no longer do that as I had an absolutely poor experience yesterday evening.
I don’t know if it has been sold off and taken over but, in my opinion, it’s been for the worse.
They’ve replaced the chairs of the dining room that are too high to cross my legs under and removed the old newspaper clippings from the posts.
The once amazing menu now has burger options and mac and cheese, which immediately sparked red flags to me as the scallops and other delicious options had been removed.
I went with two people, who hadn’t been before and who I spoke amazing things about this restaurant, just for them to order garlic prawns as a starter which came with cheap tiny prawns and half a king prawn each in a tomato broth. I order the meatballs which were overcooked and, frankly, a little bland and dry.
I can’t speak about their mains, but my own however was a disappointment. I ordered the seafood linguine and was disappointed with what I was given. Rather than a wedge of lemon on the side, it was diced up skin and all and tossed throughout it, which meant every other bite was just full of citrusy lemon rinds, so I had to dig all of those out just to be able to taste anything else. It was again full of those small prawns and half of a king prawn. The broth/sauce it was in was bland and I couldn’t taste it but I’m unsure whether that was due to the copious amounts of lemon or not.
You used to get a hot plate full of fresh steamed vegetables with your meal but that is now only an option as a side if you pay for it.
We all decided to forgo desserts, which used to be written on the blackboard but is now included on the limited and poor menu.
We spent nearly £100 and it wasn’t worth it compared to what used to be available.
