Blue Door Kitchen & Garden, home to celebrated Chef Art Smith, is a farm-to-table oasis in the heart of Chicago’s Gold Coast and deeply rooted in the philosophy of letting the seasons dictate the menu. From its inception, the Blue Door brand has become synonymous with sustainability and responsible sourcing. We pride ourselves in showcasing dishes made from fresh, local ingredients sourced from Midwest farms.

Experience a chef-driven menu featuring everything from pierogis and market fresh salads, to Chef Art Smith’s famous buttermilk fried chicken. Walk-ins are always encouraged. Be sure to join us during the warmer weather months when the beautiful outdoor patio is open. While visiting, be sure to enjoy one of Blue Door Kitchen’s garden-to-glass cocktails, local beers or perfectly paired wines from our extensive list.

The food was delicious and the ambiance is cozy! Service was a bit slow because of a large party upstairs but otherwise good.

After making reservations well in advance, we were shown to the worst table in the restaurant, right across from the door to the patio. Every time the door opened a blast of cold air chilled our table. Our waitress was slow to recognize our table. The restaurant is small, quaint and lovely. We enjoyed our appetizer but then asked to move between courses as we were freezing. Our entrees arrived and the waitress had ordered the pork for me when I had asked for the beef. This was quickly remedied and it was delicious. Before we were finished with our entrees the waitress asked if we wanted dessert. We said no thank you. We were immeadiately given the bill, again, all while still eating our entrees! I would go back, and give it another try, just no time soon.

Love the fried chicken! Great place to take out of town guests. Happened to be a warm March evening so we sat on the terrace. Great food and drinks.

It was my first time at Blue Door and they did not disappoint! The food was excellent, we went with the famous faves - kale salad, deviled eggs and of course the fried chicken. We were celebrating a birthday and our server Adrian was an absolute rock star who made the evening special. Woke up this morning thinking about the weekend and heading back there. It may be our new favorite spot in Chicago. If you value great food, exceptional service and a perfect ambiance. Go Now!

The wait staff was very attentive. The fried Chicken Benedict was delicious. I loved the sausage gravy that took the place of the hollandaise sauce on top. We sat in the garden room on a cooler rainy day, and it was a little bit cold, even though the heaters were on. I would love to return and try to sit in the main restaurant area of the house.

Cute place, however the food was just average. Soup was good, crab cakes were undercooked and mushy. While our server was charming she was not very good as we had to remind her several times to get several things we had asked for. I wouldn't go back.

The food was excellent! The restaurant was a bit crowded and loud, and they seemed to be rushing us through service- likely hoping to turn the table. But most importantly everyone like the food. We had 5 people, everyone got something different, and everything was delicious. We were in and out in under an hour, which was not ideal-we were celebrating and would have liked a more relaxed pace.

Fantastic dinner! Had deviled eggs and fried chicken for one person and salmon for the other. Cornbread for all! The cornbread was so amazing! Everything was great. Love the decor and the setup even though the small 2 person tables are pretty close together. Just a great dinner in a nice atmosphere.
