Brasserie 292 combines the old-world charm of Poughkeepsie's historic Main Street district with a timeless, classic Brasserie fare. Diners can choose from a menu that boasts an impressive range of selections, from our Raw Bar to the Prime Boneless Ribeye, and includes a diverse wine and beer list. Once a popular garment destination, our inviting dining room has been transformed into a spacious haven that can accommodate over 80 people. With a varied and interesting menu (and wines by the glass offerings) and a very nice selection of specials, the Brasserie 292 gets my vote as the finest restaurant in the City of Poughkeepsie. Our server was pleasant and knowledgable, not only about the food and its preparation, but also about the wines offered by the glass (I am a wine educator, and especially appreciate that!). While the restaurant was packed with diners (there was a sold out Christmas concert at the historic Bardovan Opera House just around the corner), and the interesting decor has walls of "NYC like subway tile", we were still able to converse! We enjoyed entrees of whole Branzino (my wife took the option of leaving the head on!) and Duck Confit (it came as I like it, the skin crisp and the flesh tender and moist). And my Soupe a l'Oignon Gratinee was a delicious combination of caramelized onions and cheese.

This is our favorite restaurant in the area. We know when we go here we will be able to have something that we cannot get anywhere else in the area. Great drinks and great food.

I was disappointed with my meal . I ordered the pork chop special. The pork chop was too salty and I did not like the sides that came with it.

Our server, Natalie, was amazing. She was knowledgeable and friendly and joked around with us. The food was delicious and everyone enjoyed their cocktails. From appetizers to dessert, our party had a great time!

We had the sardines and the oysters for an appetizer followed by the house salad. Our main courses were the Wild Boar Ragu, which was pretty mundane, and the Shrimp Provencal, which was very flavorful. We enjoyed our food but it wasn't outstanding. Next time, we will try the specials. The service was odd. The appetizers and the salad were served quickly and all together, which cramped the table after which there was a long wait for the main courses. The wait staff were all very helpful. I was happy to see many French wines on the wine list.

I was there with a friend for the first time about 3 months ago and we (both former longtime restaurant people) were really wowed by the overall experience. The host and servers were very friendly and went above and beyond. Service was attentive and food /drink was excellent. This time, it wasn’t that it was bad at all, but it was not the same experience. We were barely greeted when we entered and found our own way to our table where our friends were waiting. The host was on the phone and did smile and say “hello” that way but no one else came over to ask if we needed help. My friends who had gotten there earlier asked if we could take one of the booths (they were all empty), but the waiter said they were all taken. My friend is a large guy and we would have been much more comfortable at a booth, but okay, we get it. Unfortunately, two of those booths remained completely vacant for the two hours we were there. The server was very nice and professional, but our drinks took a long time to arrive and both our four drinks and our four main courses arrived at slightly different times (2 and then 2 for the meals), instead of them all coming out at the same time. The food was good, but these little details are what take an experience from “good” or “fine” to great. When we left, no one said goodbye - I was left feeling a little disappointed by what I’d raved about as “excellent” to my friends. Perhaps just an off night, it happens, and as I said - there was nothing bad that happened, just not a wow experience. Just wanted to share because I know the owner really cares (our previous bartender the time before shared that when we remarked on the great service last time). Thanks!
