Butcher & Singer, in the amazing historic location of 1500 Walnut, is an intimate and sophisticated dining experience in a relaxed clubhouse setting.     Whatever Stephen Starr does, he does amazingly well! All that I can think is that butcher and singer is now supposed to be instagram fodder. As you survey the beautiful high ceilings, exquisitely draped dining room there are cell phone lights for selfies around the room. The pace of dining was off. Why wouldn’t you bring me a cocktail while I perused the menu? Then why would you deliver my bottle of wine while still on appetizers. The fire alarm went off during dinner, and although I appreciate the reassurance,the fact that I was told “oh this has been happening” didn’t really make me feel like this was the high-end restaurant that I remember. overall I am so sad to say Butcher and Singer is no longer the place for me instead of being a lovely steakhouse in a gorgeous setting, it might as well be another theme restaurant.

    Wife and I came here for my birthday dinner. We arrived about 4:45 and the doors were locked. It was cold so we went across the street to a store to stay warm. A few minutes later the sign was illuminated so we correctly deduced the doors were unlocked. Staff was friendly and accommodating. The don’t seat people until 5 (not complaining, website says they open at 5). We opted to sit near the bar, which was open and serving drinks. At 5 we were seated at a table near the back. Although the place is dark, our table was well lit. We even asked for the table number to request on our next visit. Our old eyes didn’t need phone flashlights to read the menu. Our waitress (Ashley) knew the menu and answered all of our questions. As the restaurant filled up, she had 5 other tables to serve around 18 diners. Two of the tables were pushed together to accommodate a large party. Service was relaxed but didn’t suffer because there were other employees to help out. We ordered drinks which came promptly. We each ordered the Wedge Salad which was a softball sized head of iceberg lettuce, halved and covered with deliciousness. We should have ordered one to split between us. Wife ordered the Pork Chop, I ordered the 8 oz. Filet Mignon. Both were delicious and done to perfection. Of course, the real reason we chose Butcher & Singer is the Lemon Icebox Pie. We opted to take it to go. All-in-all, a great experience. We’ll definitely be returning.

    We were looking for an traditional yet unique experience and B&S delivered the goods. The Caesar salad was spot on and our porterhouse for 2 was perfectly seasoned (i.e. no need for extra sauces). We closed the evening with great baked Alaskan. All in all a great evening. Our server was attentive and the atmosphere was lovely--a huge former bank filled with great jazz vibes.

    Beautiful ambiance. Impeccable service. Honestly… food was ok & I have had far better meals for less of a price tag. Ordered the NY Strip, cut was decent but seasoning was lackluster. Brussels sprouts meh, green beans were green beans, stuffed hash brown was good. Cocktails were all good.
