Led by co-chefs and co-owners John Jackson and Connie DeSousa, CHARCUT Roast House is one of Canada’s most lauded restaurants.
The restaurant’s every detail – from the reclaimed local barn wood panelling to the mason jar chandeliers – transports the authenticity and soul of local, farm-fresh producers and their flavourful ingredients to downtown’s most energetic restaurant and bar.

    The service was awful; it took thirty minutes to receive our drinks, and our server seemed indifferent, making us feel like we were a burden. Not a cheap place to eat and I’ve had better service at a Denny’s. I would not recommend this restaurant.

    Terrible food, some of our dishes were actually inedible and had to be removed as even the server could see they had messed up preparing them. Yikes, this place has really gone downhill.

    Amazing experience, from the front door coat check to the wait staff. Everyone was very professional and we were treated very well. The food was amazing as well, lovely plate presentation and cooked to perfection. The octopus was fantastic as was every dish we tried. We will certainly be back. Our waiter was top notch

    Very good service but could have been more attentive to empty drink glasses. We were there early so restaurant not busy at all. Appetizers were phenomenal. The blistered tomatoes on cheese with focaccia and Caesar salad are dishes I would order again and again. We had the chicken piccata which was great except half the plate was blistered tomatoes, exactly the same preparation as the appetizer which we already had (minus the cheese) so we should have asked for a different side, or perhaps servers should mention that it’s the same when people are ordering. We also had the prime rib which was very good. Seemed to have been pre cut then broiled before serving, however tasted good and was tender. We also had ordered a side of roasted carrots. These were disappointing. They were barely cooked. Very hard and raw. Would have been a good dish if they had some softness too them. Overall we were happy with our first time experience at Charcut.

    I have been to charcut a few times over the years since it first exploded onto the dining scene. It’s an icon. Still one of my favourite places to grab pasta, which is some of the best in the city. Things have slowly drifted tho. I’m not sure how to describe it but it has lost some of its original magic. The cocktails are so so ; the service not quite as top notch. It’s the small things. The food is still great, which is what really matters, but it doesn’t feel like I got the same value or experience as before.

    Awesome place to eat and enjoy your companions. Food was great, waiting staff excellent, overall experience was excellent. Will definitely come back.

    The waitress dropped tomato sauce on my beige skirt. No help was offered in trying to remove the stain. It’s ruined. Then our waitress came back to our table to let us know our order was lost and had to re-take it. Would never go back. Asked for club soda to remove the stain, but she didn’t bring any, so asked another waitress who brought some.

    Honestly Charcut has always been one of my favourite go to restaurants and this lunch experience was very disappointing. The lunch all at once had none of the garlic and dijon sides and the meat was dry and over done. Need to bring the quality back, please.
