REX at The Royal provides guests with transformed southern fare, a full bar, daytime cafe and curated bottle-shop housed in the historical Royal Theatre, known as a staple in the rich cultural history of the City of Philadelphia for its role as a hub for Black culture and artistry, including film-making and live music, during the 20th century. REX at The Royal, now operating out of the newly-renovated theatre, maintains key tenets of the historical site including a stage for live music performances, as well as sweeping arches and other details sustained from the original design. REX at The Royal cuisine pays homage to the great early 20th-century African-American chefs who adapted traditional southern fare to Philadelphia’s urban landscape. The food was amazing and nice sized portions. Music was great but found have the option to sit downstairs without music and the restaurant was clean. I will definitely eat here again

First time at this restaurant, but I have visited her other locations. The restaurant was very pretty and lively. The colors made us feel like we were in the islands. The music was nice as well. The food was really good. I enjoyed the shrimp appetizers and the empanadas. The drinks were good too. I was stuffed so didn't have a main entree but my daughter had the chicken and waffles and it was a lot of chicken but it was good. My only recommendation is in the winter, find a way to now allow the cold air to come into the restaurant every time the door opens. Either build a entryway or find a thick curtain. Otherwise, can't wait to go back!

One of my favorite center city cafes. Great food, drinks and it's beautiful. We had fried shrimp, Brussel sprouts, french onion soup, chicken ceasar salad. We also had a couple christmassy drinks. Everything fun and fabulous I go at least 4 times a year. I always bring someone because it's great
