Despite the adverse timing, Beer Street South has continued in its predecessor's footsteps by serving the best, most sought after beer produced in and around New York City, along with a full bar that emphasizes locally produced spirits, wine, cider, & even sake, all of which are offered on draft as well as traditional formats.Named after a 1751 print by English artist William Hogarth to illustrate the merits of drinking beer over gin, Beer Street began in 2011 as a humble beer and tobacco shop tucked on a quiet street in Williamsburg, before converting to New York City's first locally focused beer bar known for its warm, attentive hospitality & thoughtfully curated, constantly rotating selection.

The Highlight Room’s real showstopper is the spectacular view of the city through a glass wall that spans the entire width of the room and folds back to allow access to the outdoor terrace. From there, guests can lift a cocktail to the expansive views — north to the Empire State Building, south to the Freedom Tower. The north and south sides of the room are lined with two-toned leather and velvet banquettes positioned to take advantage of the cityscape views from floor-to-ceiling windows.The bar, set off by wooden arches and antique mirrors, complements the greenery, and elaborate, candelabra-style chandeliers allude to the candles that would illuminate the German garden as evening fell. Layers of premium materials — plaster, brass, velvet upholstery, caramel drapery, terrazzo tiles — add a dose of playful luxury. Although the bar is open to the public, the overall sense is of a swank member’s club, a private Eden commanding the sky above the Lower East Side. Must be 21+.

    In a word—outstanding! This was our second visit to Metropolis, and it exceeded our expectations in every way. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by Maître d' Isaiah, who set the tone for an unforgettable evening. Our server Ira was not only attentive but also knowledgeable, offering insight into each dish with enthusiasm that made the entire experience even more enjoyable. Chef Sherry's culinary creations were a true work of art—both in taste and presentation. Each bite was a revelation, and the appetizers in particular were nothing short of spectacular. If I could describe it, it was like a celebration of flavors in my mouth— my taste buds were dancing with delight and craving more after every bite. We've dined at top restaurants all over the world- but Metropolis stands out, to us, as one of the best. Chef Sherry, thank you for making this Valentine's truly special. We can’t wait to return for another unforgettable dining experience!
