Oh, you wanted a restaurant description? Sorry. Can’t really help you there. We’re not so big on labels. Our food is hard to nail down as we are constantly evolving and entirely seasonal and personal. We’ve used “Food you eat” as a tag line on occasion and that remains accurate. We could also describe it as “Food we really want you to eat”. When you’re here, tell us what you would call it.

Hard Knox Café offers San Francisco diners the best in southern home-style cooking. It is sometimes said that someone has gotten their education from the school of “hard knocks” meaning one born from experience rather than classroom training. Southern cooking is much like that as it is most often learned from family and growing up southern rather than a culinary course.     I learned there is a new head chef from famous prior restaurants and food is incredible!! The atmosphere and ambiance was fun and warm that could be low-key as well as elevated. It’ll be a favorite in the area

    Went to Wilder SF for Christmas dinner. My wife had the prime rib special and I had the pork chop dinner. Both were amazing. The pork chop had a wonderful sweet and salty flavor—no complaints on anything! We did the roast cauliflower for an app and they were super thoughtful of my allergies and skipped the flash fry since calamari goes in it (seafood allergy) and let us know it would take just a touch longer. Appreciated the safety and communication. We finished with affogato for dessert which is served in a waffle cone. A little twist on a classic. I wouldn’t normally like a waffle cone with it but it made it perfect to split with my spouse who really enjoys that part. Great place. Can’t wait to go back.

    Really nice experience. Great food and super attentive service. We're on the covered patio, so a little less buzzy than the dining room, so easy to catch up with friends. Highly recommended.

    Excellent French food. The “little bites” are a great way to get started. The appetizers and mains were also excellent. Also quite vegetarian friendly.
