The Italian food in north beach is generally just ok but this spot actually knows how to cook. Coming from New York I didn’t think this would be a lot to ask, but it really is hard to find an excellent Italian restaurant in San Francisco. They don’t seem to be able to make marinara sauce out here or really anything Italian - this place is fantastic.

Back to Back is a great neighborhood restaurant with a straightforward menu that is well executed by the kitchen. Service is welcoming and friendly. B2B has a good vibe and energy that permeates throughout the space. If in the area, its definitely worth checking out.

I was planning a bday dinner for 8 & had chosen the restaurant strictly based on online reviews. Felt a tad apprehensive as the date approaches but concerns I may hv had soon diminished the minute I entered the res. Lovely ambience and Eduardo the owner was warm & welcoming and most attentive. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. My favorites were clam sauced pasta n that with eggplant. The consensus - this restaurant is truly a neighborhood gem. We will be back.
