Bar Chelou is a neo-bistro that is both a distillation of Chef Doug Rankin's broad gastronomic interests and a deeply personal expression of his individualistic style. 'Chelou' (French slang for ‘strange’ or ‘unexpected’) is both the name and unifying theme of the restaurant, which draws from a range of culinary traditions and service styles to create something personal, novel, and fun. The restaurant is located within the Pasadena Playhouse complex. If you plan to visit the Playhouse after dinner, please book a 5:30p reservation to ensure ample timing for your dinner. We also offer concession cocktails before a showing and during intermission.     Absolutely delicious! Congrats to Chef Mairinger for this Austrian-German gem of a restaurant. It was our 2nd visit with a slightly changed menu this time. My wife had the German veal schnitzel with mushroom sauce with Spätzle and the cucumber salad. I had the sausage sampler with Sauerkraut. We started with the Pretzel Basket. The spreads alone were outstanding. For dessert we got a box with a selection of cookies. I think these were a Christmas special?! Anyhow. We devoured them at home, and they were equally good. The place is a bit on the pricier side, but worth every penny!

    It is with a heavy heart that we bid our favorite "go-to" farewell. I have been going to Eveleigh since it took over from Kenneth Cole. I brought my now-wife there for one of our earliest dates, and we have been going there on the regular ever since. Great job, Eveleigh. We will miss you terribly.
