Tired of the loosely French inspired humdrum of restaurants popping up across the city of London? Do you like holidays? Do you like cold drinks and warm service? If you've answered yes to one or more of these then perhaps Tollington's can refresh both your pallet and your mind. The idea came from a mirror in an antiques market and a love for a more informal approach to dining, the result is a chippy in North London with old church pews bolted to the walls to be leaned on and eaten from. The focus is on fish but the menu transcends fish, mammals and vegetables, leaving no stone unturned in the never ending quest for flavour. Split between two rooms, the front the engine, the kitchen and bar shared by customers as they perch on bar stools and enjoy dinner and a show. The back, bookable room is lower, lower lighting, lower seating, perhaps a slight calm compared to the front room, here works of art from friends of the restaurant adorn the walls and floors.Book now to reach Nirvana.

Pop’s career in the fish and chip business started in 1952 when, aged 11, he got a job on Roman Road cutting up copies of The Daily Mirror to wrap fish and chips in. Poppies in Hanbury Street was Pop’s first restaurant and the one where the journey began. The retro-diner and takeaway is close to Pop’s heart as it brought 70year old Pat out of retirement. Excellent omakase experience at kikuchi. The service was brilliant with attentive and knowledgeable staff. I recommend counter seating so you can watch Master Kikuchi prepare each dish with care and precision.

We celebrated my son's 18th here after a fantastic day in Camden he loves Fish and chips so we thought it would be a good option and we weren't wrong! The food was fresh and delicious and the service outstanding. They made a real fuss of him and we all had a great time! I would highly recommend Poppies!

Great fish and chips and good selection of wine. They also fry the cod and haddock skin off - which is extra special - not many do this outside Yorkshire. Highly recommend.
