Our concept is simple – providing our customers with the best quality fish, cooked in front of you, in simple and classic ways. Since 1999 our focus has never changed, quality and responsible sourcing is still our main concern…we just look a bit more fancy now! Our central location in Borough Market means that London’s best produce is right on our doorstep. We are proud to say that we source most of our produce from Borough Market itself, and our fish is delivered daily from our very own fishmonger, Jarvis, which is renowned for its extensive range of the freshest fish and seafood. Winner of the UK's Best Independent Restaurant of the Year, 2014. Pat 'Pops' Newland has been serving authentic British fish and chips in London since 1945, and from this he has recreated a restaurant serving one of Britain's best-loved dishes in a friendly setting, surrounded by authentic 1940s/50s memorabilia lovingly curated by Pops himself. Our menu includes sustainably-caught mouth-watering fresh fish cooked in crunchy batter, served with golden chips and classic mushy peas, prepared on the premises by our onsite fishmonger. You can also try the seafood platter, pies, chicken, or traditional east end classics like jellied eels, followed by traditional, indulgent English desserts such as sticky toffee pudding and apple pie. Drinks vary from fruit juices and traditional ginger ale, to carefully-picked wines and locally-sourced beers.

Poppies in Hanbury Street was Pop’s first restaurant and the one where the journey began. The retro-diner and takeaway is close to Pop’s heart as it brought 70year old Pat out of retirement. It fulfilled his lifelong dream of opening an East End chippie and a desire to offer customers a taste of the old East End.

Had a gorgeous meal here tonight! The steak tartare was divine, along with the steaks and side dishes! Everyone was so friendly and attentive, it was such a treat to be shown such hospitality. Even the mood/ambiance was perfect! Thank you so much

Simply the one of the best restaurants I’ve been to. Service top class with nothing too much trouble, food exceptional, view over the Thames and Tower Bridge adds to the experience . Not cheap but good value because you get what you pay for. Been there numerous times and not once have I had any reason to complain. Well sourced fish in particular and an extensive choice on the menu. Highly recommended.

Always go here for lunch meetings but only gave 4 for food as the grilled squid we ordered was not entirely cooked as there were portions that were very rubbery
