Poppie’s is renowned for authenticity – and it’s little wonder, with born and bredEast-end proprietor, Pat ‘Pop’ Newland, at the helm. Pop’s career in the fish and chip business started in 1952 when, aged 11, he got a job on Roman Road cutting up copies of The Daily Mirror to wrap fish and chips in. With decades of experience behind him, ‘Pop’ founded Poppie’s. The shops are filled with retro memorabilia from Pop’s childhood, The uniforms channel a 1950s vibe, and the music is tailored to each shop. Dining in one of Pops restaurants is an experience with retro vibes and iconic looks from the decades. Tired of the loosely French inspired humdrum of restaurants popping up across the city of London? Do you like holidays? Do you like cold drinks and warm service? If you've answered yes to one or more of these then perhaps Tollington's can refresh both your pallet and your mind. The idea came from a mirror in an antiques market and a love for a more informal approach to dining, the result is a chippy in North London with old church pews bolted to the walls to be leaned on and eaten from. The focus is on fish but the menu transcends fish, mammals and vegetables, leaving no stone unturned in the never ending quest for flavour. Poppies in Hanbury Street was Pop’s first restaurant and the one where the journey began. The retro-diner and takeaway is close to Pop’s heart as it brought 70year old Pat out of retirement. Delicious food, great friendly staff. Outstanding value for money. We had 4 starters 3 mains 2 sides 3 desserts 3 cocktails and 3 coffees £65pp. Nice atmosphere. Clean and attentive. Will be revisiting and recommending.

I went to Manzi’s with a couple of friends as a long overdue catch up. The venue is spacious and has a nautical theme to the decor. We all really liked it. The food is seafood focussed (as you might expect!) but there are some meat and vegetarian options. We had the prawn cocktail and sardine bruschetta to start which were delicious - I got food envy seeing the sardines come out so would definitely order those next time, and then we had the bouillabaisse, the steak frites and the fish of the day lemon sole as mains. All were great but the lemon sole was the favourite (I had food envy again!). For dessert we had the almond tart, cheesecake and hokey pokey - all were fine - my almond tart was good but nothing to write home about. The service was very good. The best surprise was the bill at the end - we thought for the amount of food and wine we had, it was pretty reasonable for London (this is always relative as sadly we are ‘used’ to London pricing so this was reasonable in comparison to other restaurants of the same standard). All in all we really enjoyed our visit and will be back!

We celebrated my son's 18th here after a fantastic day in Camden he loves Fish and chips so we thought it would be a good option and we weren't wrong! The food was fresh and delicious and the service outstanding. They made a real fuss of him and we all had a great time! I would highly recommend Poppies!

Fabulous caviar experience. The restaurant has a vibe that pairs perfectly with caviar tasting and champagne. Well priced for a luxury treat, all While being taken care of by fantastic staff. Highly recommend.
