Our concept is simple – providing our customers with the best quality fish, cooked in front of you, in simple and classic ways. Our central location in Borough Market means that London’s best produce is right on our doorstep. We are proud to say that we source most of our produce from Borough Market itself, and our fish is delivered daily from our very own fishmonger, Jarvis, which is renowned for its extensive range of the freshest fish and seafood. Poppies in Hanbury Street was Pop’s first restaurant and the one where the journey began. The retro-diner and takeaway is close to Pop’s heart as it brought 70year old Pat out of retirement. Pat 'Pops' Newland has been serving authentic British fish and chips in London since 1945, and from this he has recreated a restaurant serving one of Britain's best-loved dishes in a friendly setting, surrounded by authentic 1940s/50s memorabilia lovingly curated by Pops himself. Our menu includes sustainably-caught mouth-watering fresh fish cooked in crunchy batter, served with golden chips and classic mushy peas, prepared on the premises by our onsite fishmonger. You can also try the seafood platter, pies, chicken, or traditional east end classics like jellied eels, followed by traditional, indulgent English desserts such as sticky toffee pudding and apple pie. Drinks vary from fruit juices and traditional ginger ale, to carefully-picked wines and locally-sourced beers.

Welcome to BEHIND. We are an intimate 1 Michelin star fish-focused tasting menu restaurant run by chef Andy Beynon. Had a great evening with my group of 6 on Christmas Eve. The food as always was amazing, miso cod and scallops for me. Service is always outstanding, perfect balance between friendly and professional. Great atmosphere, buzzing but not too loud. I love eating here with my family.

This was honestly the best restaurants I have been . I really enjoyed my self and the food was exeptional ! I got the fish special with mussels and clams and my husband the fish and chips . Oh my God !!!!! This will be a restaurant that I will keep returning to . Portions were large, service excellent, lovely and comfy environment. Thank you for the experience, I really enjoyed it here

We had the most incredible experience at BEHIND. Great concept and ethos, and the food and service were excellent. We loved seeing the chefs at work and being able to interact with them as they served and explained the dishes. The intimate size of the restaurant also added a personal touch. Highly recommend!
