Pat 'Pops' Newland has been serving authentic British fish and chips in London since 1945, and from this he has recreated a restaurant serving one of Britain's best-loved dishes in a friendly setting, surrounded by authentic 1940s/50s memorabilia lovingly curated by Pops himself. Our menu includes sustainably-caught mouth-watering fresh fish cooked in crunchy batter, served with golden chips and classic mushy peas, prepared on the premises by our onsite fishmonger. If you've answered yes to one or more of these then perhaps Tollington's can refresh both your pallet and your mind. The idea came from a mirror in an antiques market and a love for a more informal approach to dining, the result is a chippy in North London with old church pews bolted to the walls to be leaned on and eaten from. The focus is on fish but the menu transcends fish, mammals and vegetables, leaving no stone unturned in the never ending quest for flavour. Split between two rooms, the front the engine, the kitchen and bar shared by customers as they perch on bar stools and enjoy dinner and a show. Took my mum for her birthday, she was so happy. She really enjoyed her food as did my brother and I. She had the lamb, my brother and I both got the ribeye steaks with chunky chips and sautéed veggies. The meat was cooked perfectly, the chips crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside and sautéed veggies were stunning. The lamb also came with mash and gravy, my mum said she'd never had mash like that before and she'd love to have it again - my mum is a picky eater. Service was really good, we didn't wait long to be served, the wait staff were super friendly. Would definitely go back! Thanks for making it a wonderful evening!
