Pat 'Pops' Newland has been serving authentic British fish and chips in London since 1945, and from this he has recreated a restaurant serving one of Britain's best-loved dishes in a friendly setting, surrounded by authentic 1940s/50s memorabilia lovingly curated by Pops himself. Our menu includes sustainably-caught mouth-watering fresh fish cooked in crunchy batter, served with golden chips and classic mushy peas, prepared on the premises by our onsite fishmonger. Poppies in Hanbury Street was Pop’s first restaurant and the one where the journey began. The retro-diner and takeaway is close to Pop’s heart as it brought 70year old Pat out of retirement. It fulfilled his lifelong dream of opening an East End chippie and a desire to offer customers a taste of the old East End.

Food was fresh and awesome. Service was superb especially Michael who walked us through wines , carpaccio vs tartare and then chicory vs friarielli vs cime di rapa , we coming back again !
