I'd known about this Third Avenue restaurant in San Mateo for years but only recently had the chance to try it after their move. The staff were friendly, the restaurant was clean, and I enjoyed the classic oldies music, which created a pleasant ambiance. However, the steak itself fell short of expectations. I ordered the cowboy steak, and at $67, I expected a higher quality cut. The steak was thinner than I'd prefer (I'd guess less than an inch thick), undercooked for my taste, and unfortunately, heavily over-peppered in the kitchen. The excessive pepper masked any natural flavor the steak might have had. Overall, I felt the price was too high for the quality of the steak. While I appreciated the friendly service and atmosphere, the subpar steak experience means I likely won't be returning. I hope the restaurant takes note of this feedback and considers adjusting their steak preparation and pricing." Key improvements and considerations for your review.

Good service; good food; great time. We enjoyed ourselves. The octopus was very good as was the crudo. We shared these as starters. My wife had a special - uni with squid-ink noodles and I had the seared dayboat scallop risotto. Both were quite good - the noodles were a little too much for my wife to finish (but she made sure to get all of the uni). My risotto dish came with 5 scallops which were cooked very nicely and presented on top of the risotto - there could have been a few more chanterelle mushrooms though. We split the Pecan Pie Tart for dessert. We finished with a couple of cappuccinos which were nice and hot with plenty of foam and great espresso. We brought our own wine and enjoyed it with the meal.

We've celebrated at the San Francisco Urban Putt before and this was our first time in San Jose. Have to say it was absoultely fantastic. Celebrated my wife's birthday with a group of 9 folks. The staff really made everything so easy and wonderful for us. We had a great time putting 9 holes and then had dinner. Pizza, loaded tater tots, smashburger, crispy chicken, gem salads... we're all very tasty. Will do this again!
