The Winding Stair Bookshop & Café became a famous Dublin landmark in the 1970s and 1980s. Named after the Yeats poem and in honour of its winding staircase, it is overlooking the river Liffey, with an iconic view of the Ha'penny bridge. As a popular meeting place for writers, musicians and artists, it was a well known hub for debate and creativity with many poems written, novels penned and movies shot within its walls. In 2006, Elaine Murphy brought this much-loved spot back to life as a restaurant, championing seasonal, Irish produce. The bookshop, located on the ground floor, was retained, as were many of the old bookshelves, photos and memories. The room retains its timeless charm with stripped wood tables and floors, and Bentwood café chairs.The view remains as quintessentially Dublin as ever.The food is good, old-fashioned home cooking, with produce sourced from artisans within the island. We had delicious mocktails &drinks at the bar while waiting for all the part to arrive. Then we had the wonderful festive menu- i had prawns to start so fresh and delicious with sea bass for main - the flavours were incredible. I couldn’t resist the whisky crème brûlée for dessert. Our waitress was so friendly and kind. Looking forward to returning.

Delicious food. Everything served quickly. Staff were always checking in (in a non-intrusive way) to see if we needed anything else or top ups, they were really lovely and attentive. Really great experience. Also, it was outrageously affordable for Dublin city centre prices. Looking forward to going back.

Booked slevins for a family meal. Was giving the raised area, could watch the euros comfortably. Waiter very promptly came and took our order,and told us the days specials. We received our drinks followed swiftly by our main course. Afterwards we were told there was music out in the beer garden. So we went to investigate. And ended up staying for the evening. Music whatas fabulous. Service was great. Overall the evening was fantastic
