Entering the Saloon, a family owned restaurant since it opened in 1967 is a bit like stepping into Philadelphia's past. Dark oak paneling, shiny brass and authentic local antiques create a warm congenial and casual atmosphere. The choice of two comfortable dining rooms each with its own vintage bars make dining and conversation a relaxed and enjoyable experience. Both bars feature a delicious and moderately priced food menu. The menu is Italian with seafood specials such as grilled octopus and dover sole. Saloon steaks and veal chops are legendary. Many prefer a plate of fried long hot peppers to compliment the steaks. All desserts and gelatos are made on the premises daily. Was a delightful classic Italian meal. We had pasta and seafood dishes and everything was outstanding. The mussels in white wine sauce were particularly delicious. The service was exceptional. I’ve been here a few times in the 70s/80s and it was fun to take our children there! ❤️

After trying multiple Italian restaurants in Philly and being disappointed by almost every single one of them, I can tell this restaurant revived my taste for Italian food. The Mushroom Ravioli was well balanced, not salty at all, and looked good on the plate. Gnocchi in a red sauce was really good, the presentation was great, and the portion was huge . The tomato sauce was well balanced and consistent. Marco was amazing attentive and kind . This is a great restaurant to have dinner , and now I understand why it is always packed!

We went on Christmas Eve for drinks at the bar with friends and then a 5 course prix fixe dinner for 2. Both experiences were fabulous. Quality bartender and the table service team was top notch: professionally urgent, menu advice, flexible to small adjustments, on top of clearing and packaging to go, no time holes in waiting for food or drinks, EXCELLENT FOOD. I am embarrassed I lived in Philly for 21 years before coming here. I have been missing out. Will definitely be back.
