Had absolutely fantastic time with my friends last night. The food was excellent, fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. Portions were very generous. The service really stood out, especially, our waiter Pedro, and manager Stipe, who were both attentive and made us feel right at home. Their hospitality added to the experience, making it even more enjoyable. If you’re looking for a cozy place with delicious Croatian/Italian food and great service, Villa Berulia is definitely place for a visit.

It started great! The restaurant is gorgeous and clean. Hostess was so nice and friendly. Great table. Great vibe and energy. Awesome waiter. Terrific wine list by the glass and my husband ordered a Negroni which he loved. We started with the shrimp and avocado salad. Still thinking about it as it was absolutely delicious. We then ordered a margarita pizza (in NYC we wanted a good pizza) uba pizza. Cant stand uba Hassan but we love spicy so we went with it and parpadelle with short rib. Nothing was great. Just okay. Only took a few bites of pasta. The short in was mushy and over powering and the egg noodles were overcooked. I did not like it at all. It tasted more like a goulash. The margarita pizza was watery and undercooked. The Uba pizza tasted like buffalo sauce on a pizza. Not impressed. The Langham suggested this restaurant but it was a miss for Italian Americans. Oh and the entire staff only spoke Spanish to each other. Would only go back for drinks and that salad!

Food was delicious (lamb chops) and the drinks (old fashioned and bold red wine) were excellent as well. The service was outstanding—it was fast in spite of being filled and the waiter very friendly and polite. The only issue was the maitre’d who was a bit testy when trying to convince us that we had to check in our winter coats and couldn’t hang them on the back of our chairs—a suggestion we ignored.

It was a very busy Valentine’s Day and the staff did well keeping up. It did lack its usual personal touch but the food compensated. The “Amore” singing was a very nice holiday touch.

I picked this restaurant by looking at online reviews. I could not have made a better choice. Our reservation was on time. We walked in, sat down and were immediately greeted by our server. Emily was her name. She was without a doubt, one of the best servers I have ever had the pleasure of working with she treated my wife and me as if we were her only customer and we were the most important people in the restaurant. It was truly a special occasion for us. The food was everything that she had said it would be and everything that I read online. It was fabulous. We took her suggestions for some of the dishes we got and every suggestion she made was fantastic. I will go back to Carmines anytime I’m in New York City.
