Our goal was to provide our guests with the warmth, charm and quality of a local "Mom & Pop" restaurant with the consistency and controls of a well managed chain. We opened on Valentine’s Day in 1953 in downtown Clinton, NY, and we’ve been sharing our love of good food and drink as a community gathering place ever since. John and Laura Alteri opened the doors and managed the restaurant until John’s death in 1960. We rebuilt after a fire in 1963, and the tradition was carried on by John’s son and daughter-in-law, Fernando “Feet” and Beverly, until 1998. Today, third-generation owner Fran Alteri manages his family’s warm, home-styled restaurant and seasoned bar, bringing people together with classic food, beer, wine and spirits. Share a table with your friends or family for casual dining and try our famous pizza, pasta, sandwiches, soup and more, or just find a stool at the bar and we can chat over one of our many craft beers.

    We've been to Portofino on multiple occasions for different events (pre-Wedding event, Birthdays, dinners.) We have always been absolutely satisfied with everything from the Staff to the facilities to the meals. They have always excelled. I had the Roasted Garlic Lamb Rack which was cooked medium, and so tender that a knife might've been optional. The Sun-Dried Tomato Labneh (I have no clue what in this) was absolutely delightful with the Lamb. Such a tasty addition. Dessert was their infamous Portofino Chocolate Pearl. The fresh berries were such a treat during these early winter nights. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for fine food and a delightful dining experience.

    Incredible experience. Host, server, bartender, All very professional, knowledgeable, accommodating!!! Food was amazing, portions were perfect: leftovers for the next day. ❤️ We want to go back very soon. Again, again & again. 🌟

    Went with a group of 9. Some things were cold (mashed potatoes, appetizer meatballs)… but everything was very tasty. Our waiter seemed a little rushed/busy, but still provided excellent service. We appreciated the small, private room for our larger group.
