Momotaro is a multi-level Japanese restaurant located in the West Loop. Led by Executive Chef Gene Kato, Momotaro has had the honor of being named Restaurant of the Year in both Chicago Magazine and Chicago Social. Under Kato’s leadership the restaurant has come to define the balance between traditional values and modern technique, blending the two in a science and art that has resulted in an authentic, innovative menu. The restaurant, designed by the world renowned AvroKO, also contains the subterranean Izakaya at Momotaro (a laid back, lively lower-level bar and restaurant reminiscent of the neon-lit haunts of trendy Tokyo neighborhoods) and an elegant second floor private space that overlooks the main dining room.

The Izakaya is located on the subterranean level of Momotaro. The Izakaya and its shared-plates pub-inspired menu echoes the Yokocho street scene of Tokyo. Narrow lounge-inspired ‘alleys’ around a central bar bedecked with hand-painted Japanese menus, moody neon lights, and vintage Tokyo street signs set the scene for the Izakaya’s direct nod to Tokyo’s most famous post-war black markets.     Indulgent, and we’re very glad to have treated ourselves. We selected omakase, and only had to decide what to drink. The evening proceeded smoothly, and we left three hours later, like the cat that caught the mouse.

    Miru is Awesome! Amie the Manager is amazing and so kind and friendly. Super accommodating to dietary needs. She makes you feel very appreciated and wanted. There isn’t a request her and her team don’t try to accommodate! She and her team provide amazing service. Food is always fresh, hot and delicious. Brendan is also super kind and friendly. . Between the two of them they are leading by example as the whole staff is super kind and accommodating. Jasmin is an awesome server also. All the servers are great and are willing to help one another. You can tell they all love what they do. Views are killer! Love this place!

    Planned a Galentine/Friend dinner here on Feb 13th. It was such a great experience. The food was phenomenal and had a variety of options for all tastebuds. One friend who is known for being a particular critic of food enjoyed EVERYTHING even the lemonade. The drinks were delicious and the green tea shots were amazing. Overall a wonderful place. The only con would be that the Ubers have a hard time locating the restaurant so drop off and pickup was rough but hey that’s not in you alls control. Thanks for a great first time experience for us!

    What a wonderful experience. It is a beautiful place and although rather spacious it is calm and relaxed and not noisy at all. The service was attentive without being too much and truly friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing: Steaks cooked to perfection, truffle fries to die for, delicious Tuna tatare as a starter and a lovely bottle of Littorai One Acre. We cannot praise this place highly enough. It truly is outstanding.
