Momotaro is a multi-level Japanese restaurant located in the West Loop. Led by Executive Chef Gene Kato, Momotaro has had the honor of being named Restaurant of the Year in both Chicago Magazine and Chicago Social. Under Kato’s leadership the restaurant has come to define the balance between traditional values and modern technique, blending the two in a science and art that has resulted in an authentic, innovative menu. The restaurant, designed by the world renowned AvroKO, also contains the subterranean Izakaya at Momotaro (a laid back, lively lower-level bar and restaurant reminiscent of the neon-lit haunts of trendy Tokyo neighborhoods) and an elegant second floor private space that overlooks the main dining room.

The Izakaya is located on the subterranean level of Momotaro. The Izakaya and its shared-plates pub-inspired menu echoes the Yokocho street scene of Tokyo. Narrow lounge-inspired ‘alleys’ around a central bar bedecked with hand-painted Japanese menus, moody neon lights, and vintage Tokyo street signs set the scene for the Izakaya’s direct nod to Tokyo’s most famous post-war black markets.     Best sushi I’ve ever had in my life! Cocktails were creative and innovative, not to mention delicious. Service couldn’t have been better! We went for our anniversary and everyone know and came to congratulate us. It was incredible.

    Great food and great service. We got there earlier than reservations but they were able to give us a great seats that we wanted- By the window looking at Michigan avenue. The waitress was great and the food was great- I had Evie Hamburger and My husband had Kansa City Steak and they were delicious - The French Fries were outstanding! They have great wine selection! I definitely recommend and will come back and eat there again when we back to the City of Chicago!

    Sushi-San was an unexpected treat! The menu isn’t huge, but the quality of rolls, apps, and other dishes is really great. I had one of the best bites of my year here, as did my husband.

    Our Christmas Eve dinner was perfect. The food was A+, the ambiance was festive (great playlist!) and our service was impeccable. Anna our server was the perfect combination of engaging and giving us our privacy. She very much made our night more memorable with her kindness, humor and relatability. The steaks were fabulous! We have been to Joe’s, Fioretta, and Bavette’s recently. This was our first time at RPM Streak and I would say that they are the superior choice.
