Hayes Street Grill is a neo-traditional fish house in San Francisco's Civic Center district, across the street from the Performing Arts Center, opposite Davies Symphony Hall and a block from both the Opera House and City Hall. We use an international mix of recipes, unified with a theme of fish and seafood. Above every other consideration, we want the freshness and pristine quality of the fish, produce, and naturally-raised meats to speak for themselves.The Hayes Street Grill's walls are covered with autographed photos of the artists who consider the restaurant their club.     John’s Grill is one of my most favorite restaurants in SF. The staff are efficient and friendly. The ambiance is great, and I enjoy taking first-timers to this gem. The food is great, and my favorite is Jack LaLanne seafood salad with a glass of Chardonnay. Steaks and pasta dishes are great too! Make a toast or two to Hammett, Bogart, Astor, Greenstreet etc. Save a bit of time to check out The Maltese Falcon and other film noir items upstairs. Enjoy the day!

    We started at the bar for a cocktail! Love that the bartenders have been there for 20 plus years! And enjoyed seeing a new apprentice learning the ropes! He was delightful!! And again having wait staff at the table that are ole pro’s and especially the backup staff! Very courageous and took such good care of us!! We had a wonderful time. We are locals and so enjoyed a SF favorite and landmark of the city!! Thank you! My Sanddabs were delicious!!

    We really enjoyed our dinner at Mastro’s. Everything was cooked to perfection and extra delicious (Lobster bisque, branzino and a filet mignon). The service was on point, and fast as we were heading towards an opera show afterwards and we didn’t have time to linger. We’ll come back!

    Three of us dined here before our show at the Curran, just one block away. Started with the large sized Cesar to share. I had 2 appetizers- I eat pasta and pizza at home. So the Kampachi crudo was great as were the meatballs. Plenty of food and a chance to try more things. One friend had the chicken leg confit over polenta and she loved it. The other had the spaghetti with clams and loved hers. A very good meal, excellent service and lively atmosphere. We will definitely be back.
