In 1688, Joseph Haviland built a tidewater gristmill that provided the locally-grown grains to a nearby bakery that supplied farmers and tradesmen with bread. It was the first public oven in New York State. Haviland’s Old Grist Mill and the public bakery were community gathering places for two centuries. Inspired by Joseph Haviland’s noble efforts, the Haviland Kitchen & Bar has been established for our neighbors. I have dined there several times and the food is excellent. Especially the biscuits and fried chicken entrée. Only reason I gave a 3 for service is it seemed slower than usual. I didn’t see the usual team, there were new staff and though they filled my order they seemed “new” to the process. Hoped they will get better with time.

Food was very good. I had the vegetarian chili and all I can say is yum! The portions are certainly ample and the service was friendly.
