The word “cloak” implies secrecy, inspiring our concept of a social sphere humming beneath the levels of ordinary life. “Petal” alludes to the Japanese tradition of “hanami,” when family and friends gather under blooming cherry blossoms to savor food, drinks and fellowship.Enter our space and travel underground to décor reminiscent of an abandoned Tokyo subway, a stratum of society all its own, an artist’s dream. Cross the threshold into a mystically transformed Japanese social dining lounge which appears to be an outdoor seating area, similar to a waiting platform.     Visited for Thanksgiving, they had a special menu designed for the holiday. Everything was very good and service was great. The menu was an interesting take on traditional turkey dinner and was very tasty. The grilled filet mignon was really done nicely and the sauce was very good. The Gruyère scalloped potatoes were a surprise with a spicy kick. The crunchy pumpkin desert was a pleasant way to end the meal. Enjoyed Roy’s Hawaiian Martini which was like a low calorie pina colada but that soaked pineapple sliced had a kick! And the Argentinian Malbec was very smooth and a nice addition for dinner. Our server, Oscar, was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and the restaurant’s history. And a beautiful view of the San Diego bay at sunset.

    Incredible place w great unique food and creative fresh cocktails. One of my favorite places on the West coast. Servers are very helpful explaining the drinks and dishes. Highly recommend for any occasion.
