Masuya Restaurant is located in a building, which has been designated as a cultural asset, on O’Connell Street in Sydney. This is the same place as the office of Kanematsu Gosho, the pioneer of Australia – Japan trades, was situated in 1980. Masuya Restaurant opened in 1993, then full renovation was implemented in 2006.The approx. five meters long sushi counter, designed by architect Robert Toland in ‘kabuki red’ with an idea of the stage of kabuki, has since fascinated not only local Australian customers but also various people with different backgrounds.A showcase displays more than 20 different sushi ingredients everyday including locally produced fish, which is purchased on the day. Overall - it was alright. sashimi was fresh and the sushi was somewhat authentic. However, it is deafening inside and waiters have a hard time paying attention to you. And for the price I paid, I think I can find a restaurant that is more authentic and of better quality. The sushi rice was clearly machine-made and it just didn't have the extra mile I expect from mid to high price range restaurants.

Incredible food. Truly amazing. Really appreciated that there was a play pen for kiddos too that made the evening so much easier. Aircon was too high and we all got quite cold unfortunately but that was the only thing with the noise level. Will still recommend and come back for sure.

I recently dined at KUON SUSHI SEI and was blown away by the quality+service. Ingredients were incredibly fresh, but the real stars were the sushi rice and soy sauce. The rice, sourced directly from Japan, had a wonderful texture and subtle sweetness that perfectly balanced the fish. Their house-made soy sauce was the perfect umami bomb, enhancing each bite without being too salty. Combined with the impeccable service, KUON SUSHI SEI offers a truly exceptional Japanese dining experience.
