Matsuri opened in Federal Hill in 1996 as the culmination of Bill Tien’s vision for Japanese cuisine in Baltimore. Matsuri is frequented by Baltimore’s many sports celebrities as well as visiting filmmakers and political figures. His chefs are routinely hired to prepare sushi dinners for customers and their friends in their homes.

    Anniversary dinner - we wanted a rather quiet time so selected an early time in late afternoon. Since we had not been before and the restaurant group has a great reputation, we decided to order the chef's choice sampler. Wow what fun. Food was great (we are Sushi lovers) and the pace was perfect. The wait staffers were all superb and our primary walked us through all the selections as we went. She was very knowledgeable and kept an eye on our table so that the timing of each selections was just perfect. We plan on returning soon!

    A Hidden Gem in Baltimore's Speakeasy Scene I recently had the pleasure of visiting Top Shelf, a true hidden gem in Baltimore's speakeasy world. Despite not being able to indulge in alcohol during the month of January, I decided to treat my daughter for her birthday and we were not disappointed. Located inside the Game On Bar Arcade, Top Shelf offers an authentic speakeasy experience that is perfect for aficionados and newcomers alike. The cocktail selection was top-notch. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed her French 75, while her boyfriend savored his old-fashioned. As for myself, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and creativity of the non-alcoholic honeycomb drink I ordered. The service was impeccable, with the mixologist demonstrating a deep knowledge of her craft and a genuine passion for mixology. The atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable, making it the perfect spot to unwind and savor expertly crafted drinks.
