Louisiana Lagniappe, located in the heart of Baton Rouge, crafts classic Southern-style cuisine with an emphasis on fresh, seasoned seafood in its warm and relaxing eatery. The homemade fried boudin balls served with remoulade and the blackened shrimp in a pineapple rum butter sauce make delicious and sharable appetizers. At first glance, you might think the name of Rouj Creole is misspelled. Besides “rouj” instead of “roux,” a quick scan of the new restaurant’s menu shows the word “gonbo” where you’d expect to find “gumbo.”But owner Stephen Hightower isn’t a bad speller. He’s just bringing Baton Rouge a taste of Creole cuisine—complete with the authentic Haitian Creole spelling of traditional dishes.
