At first glance, you might think the name of Rouj Creole is misspelled. Besides “rouj” instead of “roux,” a quick scan of the new restaurant’s menu shows the word “gonbo” where you’d expect to find “gumbo.”But owner Stephen Hightower isn’t a bad speller. We had an amazing experience there. Our server was incredible, the ambience was great. The drinks were great!!! My lobster bisque was lukewarm. And while the beef tenderloin was delicious, it was extremely rare. We like rare to medium rare steaks, but this was rare. Overhaul, a great experience and we will definitely be back.

The turtle soup appetizer was rich, full of meat and very flavorful. Another person ordered the corn and crab soup which was rich and creamy. Two of our party ordered the panned fish dish which was full of crawfish on top in a meunière sauce. Another menu item ordered was the crab cakes. The crab cakes were filled with crabmeat and had a great fried coating making them crunchy and very tasty. I would highly recommend Eliza's Restaurant.
