Welcome to your friend neighborhood bar and sandwich shop. Tucked away on Lafayette Park, just a block from the downtown and seaport neighborhoods of Salem, MA, The Babe is the perfect place to rendezvous after work for a cocktail, grab a bite with friends, or get together for a late night celebration. We take pride in our scratch kitchen with a menu inspired by Northeast sandwich culture and cuisine; touching on fan favorites from Philly to NY, and of course, Boston! Even though Post is a new name for most of us, it has been an important part of South Hamilton history since 1924. The historic building at 16 Bay Rd. was home to the South Hamilton Post Office, and a place for residents to send and pick up letters. In response to the Great Depression, and a drop in the postage rate (from three cents to 2 cents), the Postmaster added more opportunities for residents to pick up their mail. At Post, which at the time was known as “the brick block building”, letters were piled on a table, and a bell was rung to let residents know that they could come and retrieve their mail. Keeping with that tradition, guests of Post will have an opportunity to “Ring the Bell”, which signifies that they have bought a beer for our hard working kitchen and waitstaff. Whether you are coming in to dine with family and friends, grabbing a drink and an appetizer, or picking up takeout on the way home, Post is here for you – rain or shine.

    Once again our dining experience at the Hawthorne Tavern was outstanding and we loved the ambiance. The servers were nice and good at their jobs. All four of us at my table enjoyed our meals which were served promptly, even on a night when the Tavern was packed. I'd especially like to call-out Lori for taking such good care of us. My family, friends and I will be back.

    Went with 3 friends on a Friday night at 7pm for a birthday dinner. The atmosphere was perfect! Cozy and festive, holiday music playing at an enjoyable decibel. We were treated with a round of limoncello because we were celebrating a birthday. The food was delicious, the service was excellent. It was a busy night but we were never rushed and allowed to take our time. 10/10.

    My group of 4 had a reservation for a birthday dinner at 7:15. The hostess was very apologetic when they could not seat us right away as a previous table was not leaving. We ended up having to wait for our table for 35 minutes. In the mean time we got a drink at the bar. Everyone from the hostess to the wait staff to the sommelier was very apologetic but we didn't mind. Everyone more than made up for our wait with complementary appetizer and a drink. Our birthday celebration was great and all of the food and drink was phenomenal. The sommelier Scott spent extra time with us when we had questions about the wine and was very kind and informative! We will be returning soon!

    Our Bartender was excellent! The food was amazing! We got the steak and eggs and the breakfast wrap! Absolutely amazing!! Can’t wait to go back! But the star was the lemon ricotta donuts served warm with homemade jam!!!
