The Winding Stair Bookshop & Café became a famous Dublin landmark in the 1970s and 1980s. Named after the Yeats poem and in honour of its winding staircase, it is overlooking the river Liffey, with an iconic view of the Ha'penny bridge. As a popular meeting place for writers, musicians and artists, it was a well known hub for debate and creativity with many poems written, novels penned and movies shot within its walls. In 2006, Elaine Murphy brought this much-loved spot back to life as a restaurant, championing seasonal, Irish produce. The bookshop, located on the ground floor, was retained, as were many of the old bookshelves, photos and memories. The room retains its timeless charm with stripped wood tables and floors, and Bentwood café chairs.The view remains as quintessentially Dublin as ever.The food is good, old-fashioned home cooking, with produce sourced from artisans within the island. Fantastic food and service - really top quality. Lovely atmosphere, though a little dark where we were seated. I would have preferred to be able to see the presentation on the plates better. Perhaps Christmas decorations hung on light fittings were to blame? Can't overstate how good the food and service were. All wait staff was amazing. Thanks again for a great evening

Splendid solo dinner here on Saturday night before the theatre. Every single thing delicious especially the hibiscus basted lamb. If I had a criticism it would only be that the millefeuille wasn’t very sweet but really lovely in all other respect. Already booked to return. Attentive and thoughtful staff made sure I was comfortable and well looked after.

We had a lovely time at Toni, the food was delicious and the staff were very friendly and efficient. I went here for my girlfriends birthday and checked the special occasion box on the booking not expecting much, but the staff were so lovely having a balloon on the table ready for us and even putting a candle in the cake and playing ‘happy birthday’ for the dessert. Overall a fantastic experience all round would recommend to anyone looking for an Italian to eat at in the heart of Dublin.
