Kokkari (pronounced “Ko-Kar-ee”) is a small fishing village located on the islands of Samos in the Aegean Sea, whose name is derived from the small onions that were once produced in the nearby fields. Its fertile soil and Mediterranean climate translated into an abundance of fresh produce as well as treasured seafood and game. Legend tells that Kokkari is the site where Orion, a mighty hunter and a young man of gigantic stature and great beauty, fell in love with the daughter of the king of Chios.     Always a delight to have dinner at Mathilde's French Bistrot. My French-Canadian family was impressed and Lena, the owner and restaurateur, was warm and welcoming. The steak frites was cooked just right, and my parents enjoyed their Halibut and Duck confit. The risotto exploded with flavor when my wife shared a taste with me. The ambience in either the patio or main dining room is pleasant, roomy enough to give a sense of privacy to each table/party, and we could talk to each other without having to raise our voices since the playlist of French chansons acted as pleasant accompaniment rather than loud headliner. I highly recommend you have a meal there before it closes for good on 12/31/2024. Sad to see them go...

    Taksim was incredible! Turks are some of the most hospitable people you will ever meet. The service was wonderful and we felt so taken care of. It was our anniversary and they gave us complementary Prosecco! We got the tasting menu which is extremely fairly priced. Every single thing was amazing. Favorites were the ezme crunch, blackened cauliflower, crispy shrimp, mantı, and the branzino- so fresh and perfectly crispy skin. Afiyet olsun!
