Gaijin by Chef Paul Virant is Chicago’s first okonomiyaki restaurant, offering both Hiroshima and Osaka styles of the savory Japanese pancake. A self-described gaijin, or “outsider” in Japanese, Virant playfully embraces this perspective and honors traditional preparations and techniques, as well as his well-known passion for pickling and preserving.     You can't go wrong at Avec. I have eaten here a dozen times and have never had bad service or something I didn't enjoy eating. Ever. It is all top-notch. The wine program is genius. There is something new and exciting to try from all over Europe. You can trust that what is offered has been well thought out and works with the food overall.

    The ambiance was amazing. A nice cozy intimate setting that could be a good date night, family outing, or night on the town with friends. The food was superb and served family style. You get nice size portions to share, so be mindful. Overall 10/10 would definitely go back and would recommend.

    Amazing food and drinks! We had the oysters, half charcuterie board, mussels and the artichokes. Everything was so delicious and 3-4 plates is perfect for 2 people. Our waiter Luis was awesome and always made sure we had everything we needed. It’s a louder vibe so just know that going in, but it’s fun and a great casual dinner spot.
