Our Story The goal – to guarantee a wonderful meal with authentic cuisine and fabulous margaritas, serve over 50 artisanal and ancestral mezcals, and over 100 different types of tequila brands in a vibrant unique atmosphere that boasts excellent service. Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Cuisine opened in Astoria in 2021 with such a wonderful and successful home run that a second location opened in Patchogue in March 2022. Ruta Oaxaca means “Road to Oaxaca,” a historic state in the southern part of Mexico. Mr. Castillo and his Partners are keenly focused on honoring Oaxacan culinary traditions, whose fame is derived in great part from its many varieties of moles. By legend, these ancient recipes are more than sauces, they are the very focus of the meal. Ruta Oaxaca proudly features four moles, each prepared using the Oaxacan mole recipes that have made the cuisine world famous.     We made a online reservation. Upon arrival, we were seated immediately although there was people waiting as walk-ins. Our server treated us promptly for our drink orders. He was kind and friendly answering all of our questions regarding the changes on the menu. I normally get the brick chicken, but it wasn’t available anymore so I decided to go with the lamb chops. Food was flavorful and delicious. I don’t recall the server name, but our receipt says Bereket. He deserve 5 stars.

    Dinner was so delicious! Service was great—really appreciate them making Christmas Eve so special! Very family friendly. We ordered an appetizer and then had one dish of the chicken Alfredo. It was literally the best I’ve ever had. It fed two adults and two children. The kids loved it and cleared their plates. Then we had the Italian cheesecake and hot fudge brownie. Both were great, definitely recommend the brownie.

    Ovelia never disappoints. Food, drinks, ambience are always on point. Dinner last night was great. Skirt steak and feta cubes were 10/10.

    Love the food here! We always enjoy our meals here and the drinks as well. Can be just a tad too loud in the back of the restaurant.
