Set in Kansas City’s historic City Market, Brown and Loe Restaurant’s inviting atmosphere is a blend of “big city” bistro with the welcoming casual flavor of a neighborhood favorite. Housed in a former Merchant’s Bank constructed in 1920, the restaurant honors the architectural details of the two-story building which features a façade of plate glass and verde marble floors and walls. In the 1940’s, Brown and Loe was originally a produce broker with offices on the second floor of the Merchant’s Bank building. Enjoyed the Christmas movie themed Tinsel Town speakeasy. Sections were decorated for different Christmas movies (A Christmas Story, The Grinch, Charlie Brown Christmas, The Muppet Christmas Carol, etc.). Standard cocktails included a Christmas twist and were delicious.

We love this restaurant. First it is beautiful but not trendy. Second the execution of the food is superb. We love the fact you can find traditional menu items still (today was Steak Dianne) and even though steak is featured there is always a variety of seafood, duck and lamb. Service was excellent also. They use first rate ingredients and sauces and salad dressings are house made and exceptional.

Fantastic experience!! Due to a change of plans, we arrived about an hour early for our reservation on Christmas Eve and they were kind enough to accommodate us right away. I also want to mention that we originally booked a standard table but the high top was even better for the views and ambiance. We sat right in front of the most beautiful mahogany bar and got to watch the bartenders climb up and down the super high ladder. The food was all exceptional but the baked pimento cheese tray was to die for. The fresh baked sourdough bread was also phenomenal. We had mostly seafood and everything was delicious.

Fun new restaurant. We had 4 small plates between 2 of us and it was all fantastic. The cheese ring, kale, tortilini, and beets with candied pistachios were equally unique and tasty. The chef came out and introduced himself and the service was exceptional. Highly recommend.
