We’ve long loved Canary Wharf and it's rich history of the nearby Docklands and Billingsgate Market, yet Blacklock in a glass tower never quite fit. One look at an old disused warehouse nestled cosily in the corner of Canary Wharf underneath the train tracks of the North Dock and we knew we had found home. Hawksmoor Wood Wharf is housed in an eco-friendly floating pavilion in a new riverside neighbourhood in Canary Wharf. Gently rising and falling with the tide, the main restaurant at dock-level is joined by a 120-seat waterside bar. Both include terraces with views across the water (squint your eyes and you might just see the ghosts of great ships laden with mighty lengths of timber that used to swing in and unload there). There's also a private dining room for up to 20 people named after the local legend Queenie Watts, a singer, songwriter, actor and self-confessed bawdy landlady (think Peggy Mitchell meets Joni Mitchell). A group of three were seated by the window with a view towards all of Canary Wharf with its Xmas lighting, etc. Extremely accessible using the Wood Wharf exit of the Jubilee Line, it is a three-minute walk from the exit. I brought two bottles of wine on reduced corkage Monday and it was decanted and professionally served by the sommelier. The beef, side dishes and dessert were all top notch and diners left happy. Service was excellent and attentive. Great dining experience.

Finally managed to get a table at Blacklock and it was absolutely worth the effort. Definitely one of the best, if not the best, steak and burgers we've had in London. Bone marrow was incredible. Cheesecake was heavenly! Service and ambience were energetic and attentive. Definitely will be back!
