The Grain House Restaurant is located on the picturesque 10-acre estate of the Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge, NJ. The Grain House structure was originally built as a barn in the 1760’s and was used to store grain for American Revolutionary soldiers. The barn was later moved to its current location and opened as a restaurant in the 1930’s. Today, the Grain House is a renowned restaurant in North/Central New Jersey, with a comfortable, casual ambiance. The restaurant serves innovative, traditional and contemporary interpretations of American cuisine with some added international accents, prepared under the direction of Executive Chef John Benjamin. Delicious homemade desserts complete the menus, which are revised several times a year. First visit, good seating not so crowded at first for a Wednesday but that soon changed as within an hour it was full for a weekday. Service was on point and very polite and knowledgeable. Prices are reasonable for what is offered and the food was really good and portions were perfect.

Its in the details. Food was excellent. Portion’s generous. Service is the issue. Staff was pleasant but inattentive and under educated. Server did not know what dressing came with chopped salad and did not know what osso bucco ravioli was. We waited at least 20 minutes after completing our main course to get a desert menu. The glass top table was soaked with condensation from our beverage glasses, tablecloth or coasters please. The ravioli was very good, but a teaspoon more filling would have made it excellent. The tiramisu was different and possibly the best we have ever had, including that in Rome. A bit more attention to details elevates this restaurant to one of the absolute best.
