Café Berlin has been serving authentic German cuisine on Capitol Hill since 1985. It occupies the ground floor of three townhouses whose front yards serve as Biergarten for outdoor dining. The interior features a small bar and two cozy dining rooms. The restaurant is located within a short walking distance of Union Station and the U.S. Capitol. It draws politicians, congressional staffer, and tourists as well a loyal following of neighborhood residents. The traditional dishes are authentically prepared with lighter touch by chefs with extensive experience in German cuisine. Excellent meal and service. Cozy setting with adequate table lighting. Recent Washington Post review was top notch so that moved us to check out Evelyn Rose after months of procrastination! I love that the tasting menu items can be 1) ordered a la carte and 2) not all diners need to choose that menu. More restaurants need to follow their lead. We will return for Happy Hour, always a nice way to save a few bucks. Hats off to the team, front and back of the house.

This is a beautiful space. We had a large party of 8 pp, some friends were late, and we had a friend pull up last minute. I would say, not the easiest table. Our Captain and servers were very attentive and accommodating. All my guests left saying what a fabulous dinner it was. Fun cocktails. We shared a bunch of plates (Halloumi, Gigantes, Spanakopita, Mushrooms [Get Them!]) Feta Wrapped Phyllo, and some ordered mains. The food was so yummy! We will be back.

Cranes does not disappoint! Extremely well prepared and beautifully presented, the tapas dishes were fresh and provided exotic flavor combos. The dishes tend to be fairly heavy despite the small plate size because many of the dishes are fried and my only wish is that there were more variety of veggies available.
