Café Berlin has been serving authentic German cuisine on Capitol Hill since 1985. It occupies the ground floor of three townhouses whose front yards serve as Biergarten for outdoor dining. The interior features a small bar and two cozy dining rooms. The restaurant is located within a short walking distance of Union Station and the U.S. Capitol. It draws politicians, congressional staffer, and tourists as well a loyal following of neighborhood residents. The traditional dishes are authentically prepared with lighter touch by chefs with extensive experience in German cuisine. In addition to the regular menu, the restaurant offer seasonally changing menus that feature fresh asparagus in the spring, salads and light fares in the summer, Bavarian dishes during Oktoberfest in the fall, and wild game in the winter. Food was excellent, as was the service. Was little concerned about dress code requirement given the distance traveled without formal wear but allowed us to enter and enjoy a very nice experience. The steaks and fish were cooked as requested and all had an awesome crisp exterior. Salad, sides and butter cake were very good.

We booked this for Christmas lunch as it looked very quaint and romantic. We were not disappointed. A beautiful property inside an older hotel. The room was classic, clean, and distinguished and we felt like it was lovely for the type of meal we wanted to have on this special day. Our server was attentive and polite. The menu was simple as it was a special holiday. Choices were enough and we made our selections. We enjoyed our starters, entrees, and our desserts. Every bite! Wonderful!
