The Press Gang, located in the heart of downtown Halifax, occupies one of the city’s oldest historic stone structures which dates back to 1759. Boasting a formal dining experience like no other in the city, The Press Gang features an extensive menu with a rich array of exquisite seafood, meat and poultry dishes to satisfy every palate. Visit our famous Oyster Bar for a selection of Maritime oysters, succulent appetizers and an extensive list of wines and martinis. Enjoy one of Nova Scotia's largest scotch selections, featuring over 75 single malts and listen to our grand piano played by some of Halifax's finest musicians every Friday and Saturday night, beginning at 8:30pm.The Henry Room Our 18th century private dining room comfortably accommodates 15 guests. In addition, we offer one semi-private space, suitable for up to 28 guests.

We have hand-crafted cocktails and a selection of European bottled beer, while the draught taps showcase our love of home. With a total of six locations across Atlantic Canada, Gahan House has become an East Coast staple dedicated to creating memorable experiences. We get our name from John Gahan, a prominent merchant and importer of wines, teas, and groceries on Prince Edward Island in the 19th century. His former place of residence is now the location of the original Gahan House in Charlottetown, P.E. To share our award-winning ales with more of Atlantic Canada, we opened our doors and our taps in Halifax, N.S., Fredericton, Saint John, and Moncton, N.B., and St. John’s, N.L.We began as a brewpub, and we stay true to our beginnings by having a brew system in-house, ensuring that the beer we serve is as fresh as possible.     We like going to Eliot & Vine for their Happy Hour as they have wine specials & Buck a Shuck oysters. We started with wine & oysters & then enjoyed the ravioli & the short rib. Service was attentive & friendly, food was superb & the atmosphere is intimate & quiet. Of course we were there early so it wasn’t busy.

    Absolutely outstanding meal. I loved the restaurant from the moment I walked through the doors. The decor and ambiance was perfectly themed, my fiance and I couldn't stop looking around at all the little features and nautical decor. We went there for oysters, but stayed and had the duck and the swordfish. Both were absolutely amazing. Our server was also great. She gave us a bit of history on the building, and made the evening even more enjoyable. And dessert being on the house, since it was my fiancé's birthday, was a lovely surprise. Would highly recommend. We cannot wait to come back!
