Selden Standard’s fare features flavors born in local farms, captured at the peak of the season, prepared in their wood-fired oven, and served small plates-style in shareable portions. Selden is rustic and casual, but with an ever-present eye for quality, creativity, and fun. Chef Andy Hollyday is a 2023 James Beard finalist and four-time semi-finalist. Selden Standard was named a semi-finalist for Outstanding Restaurant by the James Beard Foundation (2024), and has been named Restaurant of the Year by both the Detroit Free Press (2015) and Hour Detroit (2016).

Opened on December 13, 2014 (yes, 12/13/14!) in a historic building at the corner of Woodward and Canfield. The Huma Room on the second floor features half of a black 1973 Cadillac Fleetwood mounted behind the wall and an outdoor patio.     We enjoyed a great meal before the Lions game! It was super busy, but we didn't have to wait long. I will definitely go back and try other items on the menu! It was hard to decide. We had the smash burger and the hot honey chicken. Both were delicious.

    I absolutely loved the energy at The Block! The staff was so friendly, patient and helpful! Even who I believe was security was great. The food was also tasty, I will definitely be back. Live DJ from 12-3 during brunch on the weekend and he definitely had the vibes! I ordered the Say Less & it was good. My waitress Ebony was a delight. Money well spent!

    Our first tour of the iconic train station was followed by an iconic evening at Cork and Gabel. It was a lovely win-win.
