The inside of the restaurant is casual yet refined, offering an atmosphere that is ideal for a business lunch or a meal before going out for the night. Urban Grill is a popular spot, and guests are always welcome to grab a seat at the bar while they are waiting and order one of the refreshing and creative cocktails.The menu offers aspects of delicious cuisine from around the globe. Appetizers include an Australian lamb chop, chicken or tofu lettuce wraps, an ahi tuna poke and an artisan cheese board, to name a few. The entrée menu keeps the delicious flavors rolling. Renowned Orange County restaurateur David Wilhelm, along with longtime partner Gregg Solomon, purchased this iconic location in the heart of charming downtown San Juan Capistrano overlooking the Jewel of the California missions. The menu features many of his signature classic comfort foods such as his Famous Buttermilk Fried Chicken, French 75's Onion Soup, and Whiskey Shrimp Dijon, featured at his Tavern House Kitchen+Bar in Newport Beach. Chef Wilhelm is a longtime South County resident, well known for the many concepts he has created over the years including Kachina, Sorrento Grille, French 75, Savannah Chophouse and Jimmy's Famous American Tavern. Tavern at the Mission has a large, tree covered, pet friendly patio with beautiful mission views. The interiors have been beautifully renovated with a chandelier lit dining room and a warm central fireplace. Our' Tumbleweed Bar' is designed as an homage to San Juan Capistrano's Equestrian and Vaqueros history.

    This was the perfect place for a birthday lunch. Great food, nice ambiance, good service, and we could have a conversation because it wasn't too loud. I'd recommend it for sure and I'm picky.

    We traveled from San Antonio and Corpus Christi Texas so Mom could have Mrs. Knott's chicken dinner. This is what Mom asked for her 90th birthday dinner...how could we refuse? It was as delicious as she remembered from her last visit over 25 years ago. We are so full...we have leftover chicken and had to take our pie to-go. Mom enjoyed her rhubarb and we all enjoyed the chicken, rolls with boysenbery preserves, and the cabbage. Great meal! Pleasant staff and great service!

    A special occasion (anniversary), reservation a month in advance. The smoked Old Fashioned, prime rib, creamed spinach and service were ALL five stars. Comfortable seat, eye line to a real fire (on a cold night), it was a perfect way to celebrate together.

    Enjoyed Urban-nice local restaurant. Servers are super friendly. But prices have gone up & not getting much value. At least try to compensate by having an optional bread basket. Something or coupons for neighborhood diners. People want to feel like they are getting something.

    The staff is really nice and attentive. The water they prepared for my 16-month daughter has a short straw. I think the waiter cut it shorter, so it’s easier for her to drink. The happy hour menu is great as well. We almost finished ordering the entire drink and food menu 😂
