Back after more than a two year closure following the George IV Bridge in late 2021, Merchants has undergone a full refurbishment. Merchants serves Scottish cuisine in one of the most bustling areas of Edinburgh. Braised shin of beef, haggis and seared seabass are some of the dishes on an ever-changing menu, and the restaurant is happy to try and cater for any specific dietary requirements. There is an option for tapas style or main meal. The front of house took time to expain the menu and how it worked and we were made to feel very welcome throughout. I liked that the options were clearly marked as to suitable for gluten free , vegetarian and vegan diets. We had a table near the window so had an excellent view over the shore and the water. The choices were original and flavors were excellently balanced. We would have no hesitation recommending

We arrived at The Nor Loft on Christmas day. We did not eat it was snacks only. We had two bottles of superb Champagne. The staff very exceptional and chatted to us we got some lovely photographs which one if the staff took for us. Overall, excellent place for us we always return.

Just spent a wonderful evening at Merchants. The food was 10/10, staff were excellent and ambience perfect for a pre Christmas meal. This was our first visit to Merchants and it definitely won’t be our last! Thank you for a lovely evening!

From Booking and changing the booking right through to food, the service and quality was excellent. Great relaxed atmosphere, we sat outside and enjoyed our food in the fresh air and under the overhead heaters. Would thoroughly recommend.
