The Duke of Wellington Inn is nestled in the tranquil Tyne valley village of Newton just off the A69 near Corbridge, within easy access to Newcastle, Hadrian"s Wall Country, Hexham and Northumberland's National Park. The décor reflects the traditional country inns history but with a modern twist. Existing oak and stone has been enhanced with modern colours, furniture and fabrics, and the theme extends to the bedrooms.Lunches and dinners are served seven days a week in the bar and dining room. The food provided is traditional British comfort eating to an exceptional standard and makes use of local, seasonal ingredients. A comprehensive range of beers and ales compliments an extensive wine list. The inn experience continues with seven bedrooms providing a very high quality of luxury accommodation. The outstanding views across the Tyne valley provide the ultimate conclusion to a visit to the Duke of Wellington which will stay with you long after you leave.

Blackfriars is located in a 13th century medieval friary where it once served as the refectory for the Dominican friars, making it one of the oldest purpose-built dining rooms in the UK.The restaurant serves a classic, gutsy British menu sourcing seasonal produce from local farms and markets accompanied by a large award-winning wine list.     Easily the best dining experience in Newcastle. This is a gem of a place which is a must for dining. There is a set menu for those on a budget which is outstanding quality and choice. Or if you are in the mood for more the a la carte is a great option. The selection of dishes are seasonally based and cater for all diets - you will not be disappointed. Service and ambience are a delight and as soon as you walk in you are made to feel welcome and important. We are not from Newcastle but every time we visit (this is now our third dining experience) we make a point of going here and will definitely return.

    The restaurant was fairly quiet, seated quickly and drinks and food orders taken promptly, menu items explained, staff friendly. The wait for the food was about 35 minutes however it was WELL WORTH THE WAIT! We are a family of 2 adults and 2 teens and there were clean plates all around. Beautifully cooked and presented, excellent quality and flavour and clearly fresh and cooked to order. The lamb and mint pie with home cooked chips was a highlight, one of the best pies I’ve ever had.
