A few short steps from the British Museum, The Blue Door Bistro provides a welcoming and informal bistro-style setting. Ah, there really is nothing more wonderfully British than a nice cup of tea and an opportunity to put your feet up, something the folk at London’s Tea and Tattle know only too well. Situated under the atmospherically delightful Arthur Probsthain Oriental and African Bookseller (est. 1903 no less), Tea and Tattle is a very English escape from the stiff upper lips of the busy streets above. Painted in a bright white, the room is light and airy despite its subterranean location, one wall featuring hand-painted Chinese wallpaper, others eclectic art works, some of course related to the business of bookselling. Could not fault the service, the setting, or the food. Husband said it was the best venison he had ever had. Huge wine list - knowledgeable sommelier. A lot of French wine. Obviously not a cheap eat at all - 3course meal for 2 with bottle of wine, and 2glasses English sparkling came to £400.

Elegant afternoon tea with sterling service and creative, delicious food. The sandwiches were delicious and noticeably elevated compared to other afternoon teas. The cakes were gorgeous works of art. The room is spectacular.
