Here, Jean‑Georges cultivates a truly seasonal, farm-to-table cuisine, with ingredients sourced from the Hudson Valley and New England, whenever possible. Constructed in 1833 as a residence and serving later as an inn, the building has been painstakingly renovated to preserve as many of the original materials as possible, including four working fireplaces. Thomas Juul-Hansen designed the restaurant’s interior with a modern yet rustic sensibility; zinc and marble accent stone and reclaimed wood. The restaurant’s lighting, artfully conceived by Hervé Descottes, employs paper shades and Edison fixtures to create warmth throughout.

The restaurant is named after America’s most famous founding father, Benjamin Franklin. While he was pinnacle in America’s birth, he also became the first ambassador to France. While on trips to Paris, he would wine and dine with the best of them and when he returned, he would bring back the French culture, food and wine, and share it with our new nation. Dishes like Potato Lyonnaise and Crème Brulée were the first of his favorites he shared with America. The Benjamin reflects that bridged gap between the two countries’ cultures. I’ve been to Valbella many, many times and often for a holiday. This Christmas Eve was very unusual in my experience. Our table wasn’t ready when we came in. The bar and entranceway were packed and I thought we’d never be seated. We did wait 15 minutes but apologies all around. There must have been a problem because I’ve never experienced this. Once we sat down at the best table (in front of the fireplace), all went well. The waiter was fantastic: he didn’t rush us, had a sense of humor and acted like we were his only table. Everyone enjoyed their meals. A lovely way to spend Christmas Eve.

It was our first visit to La Vista. We will definitely return. The food was delicious and substantial. The service was outstanding. It was Christmas Eve and the restaurant was very well attended with a price fix menu. The selections were varied to satisfy any preference. It was crowded but the wait staff handled it without a hitch. They were amazing and actually made our evening pleasurable to the point of wanting to return. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
