The Central Station and restaurant 1e Klas is designed by famous architect Pierre Cuypers who also designed the Rijksmuseum. The typical Dutch cosiness means in countries around the Mediterranean 'together'. Taking time for each other around a table full of small dishes and enjoy a glass of wine. Each ordered an average of 3 or 4 dishes per person and then everything on the table is shared socialising. Our chef roams the market looking for seasonal products and likes to combine local produce with Mediterranean spices. In Jottum is preferably cooked with organic, fair trade, and fresh produce.

    We were in Amsterdam for Christmas and by coincidence, so were our son and daughter-in-law! Totally uncoordinated! We chose Day's StoneGrill for our Christmas dinner. We arrived about 30 minutes before our reservation. This was no problem and we were seated immediately. Our server was very attentive and had no problem accommodating 'substitutions' for the 'set' menu. The food was excellent and the experience of 'grilling' our entree was new and fun (some reviews state that they were put off by having to prepare their own meat--" We had to work"). Sorry, but that was one of the benefits of this arrangement--prepare as you prefer. This experience and meal was out of the ordinary and VERY pleasing! Wish we had something like this in our town in the USA.

    Hier had de keuken niet goed over nagedacht. Vlaams stoofvlees met frietjes werden opgediend in een kommetje. onderin de friet, daarbovenop het stoofvlees. Hierdoor waren de frietjes sompig door de jus en het stoofvlees erbovenop was aan de droge kant. Wat is er mis met serveren op een bord?? Ik vond dit heel jammer, want het stoofvlees smaakte overheerlijk!
