Located at Silicon Beach’s Runway Playa Vista, the duo will offer a full-service dining experience, opening with dinner and weekend brunch. Superfine Playa features house-made pastas, wood-grilled meats and fish, and dishes highlighting seasonal produce. Ospi is the sophomore restaurant of Jackson & Melissa Kalb, focused on Southern Italian cooking and way of life. The name derives from ospitante (“host” in Italian), with the expectation that guests will feel as comfortable at Ospi as they would at a friend’s dinner party. There will be plenty of house-made pastas as well as an expanded offering of pizzas. The beverage program crafted by Kalb features mostly Californian and Southern Italian wines and a full bar with a special negroni section. At Ospi, the pizza is inspired by the techniques of Antico Forno Roscioli which Jackson and Melissa frequented while visiting Rome. Focusing on Romana Tonda-style crusts that are cracker-thin, he is adapting a recipe that he feels will resonate with the LA diner. It’s my second time at Sol Mexican Cocina. It’s become my favorite stop on the way down to San Diego and Orange County. I’ve had the privilege of having Emmily as our server each time who’s made our experience exceptional. Love the location, ambiance, music, and definitely the food!

Superfine brunch with kids: breakfast burrito was rated “very tasty,” as were the burger (“this is huge!”), fried chicken sandwich (“very good”), and the kids’ chicken fingers with fries (“these are like *fancy* chicken fingers!”). I had the farro with roasted vegetables and it was tasty and filling - I had enough for leftovers. As for the 4 kids I brought - all plates were clean at the end of the meal! Great atmosphere to chill on the weekend. Football games were on for those interested but kids were fine hanging out and able to run around outside at Runway when they needed to.

This was, without a doubt, one of the top 5 dining experiences of my life; I told the waiter it was the USA's answer to Noma. Unbelievably creative, visually stunning, absolutely delicious food with exquisite service; it should be on everyone's bucket list.
