Renowned Orange County restaurateur David Wilhelm, along with longtime partner Gregg Solomon, purchased this iconic location in the heart of charming downtown San Juan Capistrano overlooking the Jewel of the California missions. The menu features many of his signature classic comfort foods such as his Famous Buttermilk Fried Chicken, French 75's Onion Soup, and Whiskey Shrimp Dijon, featured at his Tavern House Kitchen+Bar in Newport Beach. Chef Wilhelm is a longtime South County resident, well known for the many concepts he has created over the years including Kachina, Sorrento Grille, French 75, Savannah Chophouse and Jimmy's Famous American Tavern. Tavern at the Mission has a large, tree covered, pet friendly patio with beautiful mission views. Wow! What a lovely restaurant. The prices kind of blew me away. I was pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the price point was. Everything that the table ordered was expertly crafted and so tasty. We shared a bottle of wine that was recommended by the sommelier and it paired so well with the entire meal. Don’t skip out on dessert! The special that day was the pineapple cheesecake, so different but so yummy. We also enjoyed the espresso and affogato. The espresso was delicious and super strong. There was live music the evening that we went. A woman was playing Christmas classics on the accordion. We loved it. The staff was helpful, attentive, and swift. 10/10 will be there again.

Mikey our server for lunch was really wonderful. Very helpful in the ordering for both wine and entrees. Lovely personality! The food was well prepared, a little pricey, but as expected :) View was terrific, we had a central table right at the window and Mikey opened the windows for us upon request so that we could have a simultaneous view and fresh air on this gorgeous day. Lovely lunch!! (Branzino, lobster salad and Cobb shrimp salad all delicious) (Also liked that the valet was free and that I was able to charge my car while dining!) Will definitely be back when next in Laguna (from LA)
